Mitsch Bush Passes First Bill of 2013 Legislative Session

(Jan. 16) – In the first floor vote of the 2013 legislative session, a bill by Rep. Diane Mitsch Bush (D-Steamboat Springs) to move the Colorado Avalanche Information Center back to the Department of Natural Resources passed on second reading today.

Last year, legislation passed to move the Geological Survey over to the School of Mines, bringing the Colorado Avalanche Information Center with it. Through the process of that implementation, both the School of Mines and Department of Natural Resources agreed that the Avalanche Information Center better aligns with the Department of Natural Resources than the School of Mines.

Rep. Mitsch Bush said she was happy to pass HB13-1057, the first bill of the session, especially one so important to her district on the Western Slope.

“Our Avalanche Information Center is the best in the country and this quick fix will ensure it continues to be,” Mitsch Bush said. “The center is vitally important to public safety as well as the economic vitality of the Western Slope and Colorado. Our tourism and recreation industries rely on the information provided by the center, making this fix a crucial one.”
