(Jan. 8) – Maintaining their focus on jobs and the economy, House Democrats introduced four more bills today to help Colorado companies grow and Colorado workers gain the skills they need to succeed in the new economy.
Showcased today were bills by:
•Rep. Max Tyler (D-Lakewood) to boost funding for our state Small Business Development Centers, the best bang for our economic development buck;
•Rep. Pete Lee (D-Colorado Springs) and Rep.-elect Leroy Garcia (D-Pueblo) to boost Colorado’s second-stage companies, those larger than the startups covered by Rep. Tyler’s bill;
•Rep. Crisanta Duran (D-Denver) and Rep.-elect Jovan Melton (D-Aurora) to match skills training programs with the jobs that are available today; and
•Rep. Rhonda Fields and Rep.-elect John Buckner, both Aurora Democrats, to connect underemployed and unemployed Coloradans to technical careers.
Speaker-designate Mark Ferrandino said the four bills, plus the Advanced Industries Accelerator Act rolled out on Monday, were not the end of the House Democrats’ jobs package.
“We have consistently placed our highest priority on accelerating our economy so we can connect more Coloradans to good jobs,” Rep. Ferrandino said. “We’ve been doing our homework on common-sense solutions to create jobs.”
