(Jan. 10) – Speaker Mark Ferrandino applauded Gov. John Hickenlooper’s State of the State message today, saying, “There is broad agreement between his policies and those that will be advanced in the House Democrats’ legislative package.”
“We have a strong partner in Governor Hickenlooper,” Rep. Ferrandino said after the governor spoke. “Working with him we’ll pass a balanced budget, boost our economy and advanced industries, get more Coloradans back to work, restore cuts to our schools, expand health care coverage and enact Amendment 64 regulations that keep our kids safe.”
Rep. Rhonda Fields (D-Aurora), who will be sponsoring a bill to end the so-called “Craigslist loophole” for background checks on private firearms sales, applauded Hickenlooper’s call to “make the changes needed to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.”
“I’m absolutely elated to hear Governor Hickenlooper address the need for universal background checks,” she said.
“I think we’re all pretty pleased by the governor’s policy positions,” said Rep. Beth McCann (D-Denver), whose bill to streamline the civil commitment process is part of Hickenlooper’s proposed overhaul of the state’s mental health system.
