State Representative Roger Wilson (D-Glenwood Springs)
State Rep. Roger Wilson was elected in 2010 to serve House District 61, which includes Pitkin, Gunnison and Hinsdale counties and parts of Eagle and Garfield counties.
He is a member of the Agriculture, Livestock and Natural Resources Committee and the Economic and Business Development Committee. In 2011, he sponsored legislation to protect our drinking water and promote healthy rivers; to examine more thoroughly the effects of natural gas fracking on our communities and watersheds; to enhance regional tourism in HD 61 and across Colorado; and to encourage the use of alternative fuel and electric vehicles.
In addition to representing the constituents of House District 61, Rep. Wilson is chief technical officer of Blue Mountain Arts, the Boulder-based greeting card and book publisher, and Starfall Education. The www.starfall.com website is used by children throughout the world and has transformed how young students learn to read.
After receiving a B.A. in physics from the University of Colorado, Rep. Wilson was a system/software engineer with Lockheed Martin, where he worked on the Hubble Space Telescope, the Iridium Satellite Phone and various national security systems.
While a CU student, Rep. Wilson worked for two years as a research assistant in biopsychology on memory and learning. Later with the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, he was a research assistant on the first student-run satellite in the country.
Rep. Wilson has been a resident of the Roaring Fork Valley since 2000 and a Coloradan since 1968. His wife, Kris, is active with local quilt guilds and is on the regional executive board of the Embroiderer's Guild of America.
